Softball gloves run longer than baseball gloves for the bigger ball. Rawlings sizes youth fastpitch infield 10.5–11" and outfield 11–11.5", adult fastpitch infield 11.5–12" and outfield or first base 12–13", and slowpitch from 12–13" in the infield to 12.5–14" in the outfield.
Fastpitch: closer to baseball
Fastpitch is played on a short diamond with a pitch coming in hard, so infielders want the same quick transfer as in baseball: a 12-year-old middle infielder takes about 12", a 16-year-old 12". Catcher’s mitts are measured round the rim, 31–35 inches by age on Baseball Monkey’s chart.
Many fastpitch gloves are cut for girls’ and women’s hands with narrower finger stalls. Rawlings’ fastpitch batting-glove chart runs Girl’s S at 5.25–5.5" of hand length to Women’s XL at 7–7.25", and the sizer uses it to say which pattern fits.
Slowpitch: the long glove
Slowpitch sends more fly balls and slower grounders, so gloves run up to 14" in the outfield with deep pockets. Infielders still go shorter (12–13") for the throw.
Brand cuts differ inside a size: when the sizer lands between two sizes, or on the edge of a band, try both.
Catchers and first base in softball
Fastpitch catcher’s mitts run larger than baseball mitts at the same age: Baseball Monkey puts 11–13 at 31–32.5" and 14 and over at 33–35", measured round the rim. First-base mitts for fastpitch reach 12–13" from 14, against 12–13" in baseball.
In Little League softball the pitching distance is 35 ft in the Minor League, 40 ft in the Majors and 43 ft in Junior and Senior League, all on 60 ft bases, so infielders see the ball sooner and harder than the same age in baseball: a glove that closes quickly matters more than an extra half inch.
Why the screen can be trusted
A browser does not know how big its pixels are, so the sizer starts from a table of 114 phones, tablets, laptops and monitors matched to your screen’s size and pixel ratio, an estimate good to about five percent. Laying a coin or a bank card on the glass and matching its outline replaces the estimate with a measurement good to a fraction of a percent, saved for this screen only.
Browser zoom is corrected automatically from the pixel ratio; pinch zoom is flagged, because nothing drawn is true size until it is undone.
