14 oz boxing gloves are for sparring. Rival puts 14 oz at 120–150 lb (54–68 kg) for sparring; Fairtex at 165–190 lb (75–86 kg). 14 oz is the lightest adult sparring weight: Rival offers 16 oz in the same band for a snug fit, and many clubs insist on 16. The hand band for the cuff is 6.5–7.5", measured without wraps.
What 14 oz is for
14 oz gloves are made for sparring. Top Ten lists 14 oz for sparring (general) at 70–90 kg.
14 oz carries 2 oz more padding than a 12 oz bag glove to protect the partner, the lighter end of adult sparring. It is not wider inside: the hand band decides the fit.
Bodyweight bands differ by brand
Rival’s adult sparring chart puts 14 oz at 120–150 lb (54–68 kg) (16 oz for a snug fit); Fairtex at 165–190 lb (75–86 kg).
Where the two disagree for a 165–190 lb boxer, sparring takes the heavier answer and bag work the lighter.
Hand and wraps
Measure the hand round the knuckles with the thumb out, without wraps. Rival’s 14 oz band is 6.5–7.5". Wraps fill part of the glove: at the top of the band with 180" wraps on, go one rung up.
Lighter: 12 oz. Heavier: 16 oz.
