Hockey gloves are sized in inches from 8" youth to 15" senior, and the manufacturers’ rule is simple: measure from the base of the palm to the tip of the middle finger and double it. A 7" hand takes 14" gloves, 7.5" takes 15". The cuff should then reach the elbow pad with no forearm showing between them.
The two-step hand length
The palm-to-fingertip length (168–199 mm on adult men, 5th to 95th percentile) is longer than most screens are tall, so the sizer measures it in two steps: the middle finger from its crease to the tip, then the palm from the crease to the wrist. The sum is the hand length; a tape gives the same number in one go.
Without the second step the sizer estimates the length from the finger (finger ≈ 0.438 of the hand for men), labelled as an estimate.
glove size (in) = 2 × palm base to middle fingertip, rounded to the inch round up between sizes
Youth, junior, intermediate, senior
Bauer’s chart: Youth 8–9", Junior 10–11", Intermediate 12–13", Senior 14–15". Sherwood’s puts 12" in Junior and 13" in Senior. The labels differ but the inches are the same scale, so size by inches.
Check the cuff with elbow pads on: the glove should meet the pad as the stick hand comes forward. A gap means the cuff is short; a glove that rides up the pad is too long.
Brand cuts differ inside a size: when the sizer lands between two sizes, or on the edge of a band, try both.
Between two sizes
A hand that doubles to an odd half inch (6.75" × 2 = 13.5") falls between sizes. Bauer’s and Sherwood’s charts overlap on purpose: a 6.75" hand fits both 13" and 14". Forwards who handle the puck a lot often take the shorter glove for feel; defencemen who block shots the longer one for coverage up the forearm.
Why the screen can be trusted
A browser does not know how big its pixels are, so the sizer starts from a table of 114 phones, tablets, laptops and monitors matched to your screen’s size and pixel ratio, an estimate good to about five percent. Laying a coin or a bank card on the glass and matching its outline replaces the estimate with a measurement good to a fraction of a percent, saved for this screen only.
Browser zoom is corrected automatically from the pixel ratio; pinch zoom is flagged, because nothing drawn is true size until it is undone.
pixels per mm = CSS px across the card ÷ 85.60 mm ID-1 card: 85.60 × 53.98 mm (ISO/IEC 7810)
